Ductless air conditioning is made up of two parts: an outdoor unit called a condenser, and one or several indoor units called an air handler. The outdoor unit and the indoor units are connected through refrigerant lines.
Multiple air handlers can be placed in individual rooms and connected to the condenser. The air handlers will pull warm air into its system, cool the air with the help of evaporator coils, and then push the cooled air back into the room. The heat it absorbs is then sent to the condenser which releases it into the air outside.
Benefits of a High-Efficiency Ductless A/C System
- Allows for zoned or targeted cooling in individual rooms
- Does not require ductwork or an invasive installation
- Can have the ability to provide supplemental heat
- Can improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency
- Great for smaller homes, older homes, additions, and more
- Known for being extremely quiet while running
Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your A/C
If you’ve been on the fence about installing a new high-efficiency ductless A/C system, these might be your signs that it’s time to commit:
Age of the Unit
Air conditioners can last 10-15 years, but the actual number can depend on how well the unit was maintained. If your unit is getting close to this age, it might be time to replace it.
Frequent Leaks or Repairs
Whether you’re facing consistent refrigerant line leaks or any other repair, the cost of maintaining an older unit might end up being more than a replacement.
Inconsistent Cooling or Heating
Not only is this frustrating from a comfort perspective, but you’re also likely facing increased energy bills as your unit works harder to cool or heat the room where it’s located.
Strange Noises While Running
Rattling, grinding, or hissing might be signs that your unit is damaged or is facing wear and tear beyond the typical repair.
